What's new for 2009

Over the last few years the National Housing Federation’s Neighbourhood Awards have been a huge success, with many housing associations entering excellent examples of community work – and with the regional shortlisted organisations showcasing their vital work at our glitzy awards’ dinner.

This year, we have decided to celebrate the fantastic neighbourhood achievements of our members through the regional What We Are Proud Of Awards- which were rolled out to every region last year_ instead of through the national Neighbourhood Awards.

What We Are Proud Of Award logo

We have taken this decision for two reasons. First, like most other organisations in the current downturn, we have had to reduce some activities in order to retain our core services. Second, we wanted to ensure that every region had a chance to shine.

2008 overall winner

South Staffordshire Housing Association receiving their award

Last year's overall winner was South Staffordshire Housing Association. The representatives are pictured here on stage with awards host Lorraine Kelly, Arthur Merchant from overall sponsor Grant Thornton and David Orr, CEO of the National Housing Federation.Their entry Project Independent Living also won the What We Are Proud Of Category award.

Judges had to make a tough choice this year to decide on the overall winner - South Staffordshire has rightly received recognition for their innovation and commitment to dramatically improving a key service to vulnerable tenants.

A big congratulations to all the housing associations who won and congratulations to all the housing associations who were shortlisted - to get through to this stage was an achievement in itself with competition this year between entries extremely high.

Also a big thank you also goes out to those housing associations that unfortunately did not make it through to the shortlist. We are very aware of the considerable hard work and dedication that went into your entries.
